About The Position

Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is one of the region’s largest orthopedic and sports medicine providers, offering world-class care for conditions and injuries of the spine, hand, upper extremities, foot, ankle and lower extremities, as well as joint replacement, concussions, interventional pain management, bone health and orthopedic trauma. The institute’s Downtown Complex provides comprehensive orthopedic and spine care, including a 75-private inpatient room orthopedic specialty hospital, 10 advanced OR suites, and a research and innovation center with a bio skills lab and 3D printer. An adjacent medical pavilion features a 63-exam-room outpatient clinic, imaging suite, physical therapy spaces, and an ambulatory surgery center. The institute also serves as official medical providers for various athletic teams and events and has been recognized with Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work award for its positive workplace culture. The Referral Specialist is crucial for coordinating patient care by managing referrals and insurance authorizations for new patients, diagnostic testing, and hospital admissions. This role involves completing patient registration, verifying financial and insurance details, and updating billing systems to ensure smooth service delivery.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent education.
  • One (1) year of retail, customer service or health care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Completes registration and obtains insurance authorization for new patients, diagnostic testing and for hospital admissions.
  • Ensures financial information and insurance has been verified.
  • Updates patient insurance information in billing systems as needed
  • Initiates the referral and authorization process for all services and visits.
  • Works closely with nursing and medical staff to facilitate optimal patient care.
  • Communicates with the scheduling department to verify each patient’s insurance requirements have been satisfied for upcoming appointments.
  • Coordinates with other departments as needed to facilitate patient’s visit.
  • Provides patient with referral information for other physicians and facilities.
  • Communicates effectively with all internal and external customers – PCP, Patient, clinical departments, etc. in order to obtain the required authorization needed for each service.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
