About The Position

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • One year medical experience in an office or clinic setting is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Medical Assisting certificate from a credentialed school.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for scheduling internal and external referrals to specialists.
  • Verifies insurance information and schedules appointments for those appointments in Altura Centers for Health.
  • Responsible for collecting the information needed, example - fact sheet, progress notes, pertinent labs, x-rays, etc.
  • Responsible for informing the clinic patient with the time and date of his/her appointment with the specialist.
  • Responsible for inputting referrals into electronic tracking system and continue to update each process example - pending authorization, pending appointment, denied, pending consultation, etc.
  • Responsible for follow-up on pending referrals and keep patients informed of the status of referral.
  • Responsible to retrieve consultations from specialist for those patients referred outside the facility (Altura) and then complete referral in tracking system.
  • Responsible for all Radiology TARS and completing necessary paperwork when submitting to insurance for authorization and follow-up.
  • Is part of the Care Team and assists the Medical Assistants to prepare for the morning huddle by updating team on the status of referrals.
  • Responsible for submitting for authorization for medication not covered by insurance and tracking those authorizations.
  • Informs Provider if medication was denied. Documents approval or denial in EPM or if in telephone call in HER, if it was a tasked.
  • Provides patients with application for drug assistance if available.
  • Responsible to call patient when medication for drug assistance has arrived to the facility.
  • Responsible to log phone calls made to patients on drug assistance that medication are ready to be picked-up.
  • Maintains orderly files.
  • Work with medical assistants and other staff to maintain patient information.
  • Participates in professional development activities.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Performs in a professional manner and puts forth their best effort.
  • Communicates openly and consistently with Supervisor(s) and all staff.
  • Other duties as assigned related to medical records department.
