Jamestown Community College, a SUNY institution, is a comprehensive community college with degree granting campuses in Jamestown, Olean, and Dunkirk, New York. JCC is an innovative, open access institution that meets regional education needs by providing transfer degree programs, career programs, community service, developmental education, and training programs for business and industry. This position is a part-time role with openings in the fall, spring, and/or summer semesters. The schedule may include daytime and evening work, with potential weekend work, totaling up to 15 hours per week. The role requires initiative and the ability to work both independently and as an integral member of the learning commons team, with a commitment to creating a welcoming, supportive environment for students, faculty, staff, and other library users.

  • Provides a full range of reference services, using current methods and technologies to meet student, faculty, and staff needs.
  • Assists in the delivery and assessment of an innovative program of library instruction and information literacy.
  • Collaborates with and promotes outreach to faculty to integrate library instruction and information literacy into the curricula and to assist with the development of collections in support of the curricula.
  • Assists in the development of library instructional materials.
  • Assists in the collection development of all formats of library resources using relevant library and professional literature.
  • Maintains currency and competence in the field of librarianship and related information technologies and their applications.
  • Provides circulation desk coverage as needed.
  • Fulfills other professional duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance.
  • M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Familiarity with the principles of information literacy.
  • Recent experience and/or education in the provision of academic reference services.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collegially in a diverse, fast-paced environment.
  • A strong service commitment.
  • A willingness and ability to serve students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Recent professional experience in reference or instruction in an academic setting.
  • Ability to work regular shifts.
  • Ability to work at extension sites, if needed.
  • Adjunct salary range of $917 - $1,246 per credit hour, with assigned placement commensurate with education and experience.
