About The Position

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Libraries is seeking a Reference Librarian and Liaison to the School of Public Health. This full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position is integral to the Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences, focusing on providing research, scholarly, and instructional support to faculty, staff, and students within the School of Public Health. The role emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and engagement in health sciences education and research.

Requirements

• American Library Association (ALA) accredited master's degree or other advanced degree(s) appropriate to the position.
• Experience searching biomedical literature such as CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, or Google Scholar.
• Experience providing reference or educational services.
• Experience designing and conducting presentations.
• Experience providing user-focused public services.
• Flexibility to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of professional library experience in a public, academic, or health sciences library.
• A degree or formal coursework in a STEM or health sciences field.
• Knowledge of citation management software and screening tools, such as EndNote.
• Experience performing literature reviews.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as library liaison to the UAB School of Public Health.
• Offer instructional services, including teaching classes and designing instructional materials.
• Provide general reference services, including answering online reference questions.
• Deliver specialized reference services, including in-depth consultations and mediated database searching.
• Contribute to expert-level reviews and participate in research projects.
• Develop and maintain specialized knowledge of library databases and resources.
• Stay current with health sciences education trends and pedagogical methods.
• Serve on internal and external committees and participate in professional organizations.
• Engage in research and scholarship as required of UAB Libraries faculty.
