The position involves providing reference service to the MWCC community, conducting library instruction for students, and collaborating with faculty to ensure that the library's collections and services align with departmental needs and interests. The job requires work at the Gardner and Leominster campuses, and it includes planning and conducting the Library Instruction Program, which serves day and evening classes, both on and off-campus. The role also entails maintaining currency in print and electronic resources, evaluating reference and instructional programs, creating and updating bibliographies and library guides, assisting with collection development, and performing duties at the Circulation Desk, among other responsibilities.

  • Provide reference coverage in conjunction with other Reference librarians.
  • Work with other Reference staff to plan and conduct the Library Instruction Program.
  • Work with faculty to ensure the library's collections and services meet departmental needs and interests.
  • Maintain currency in print and electronic resources.
  • Help evaluate reference and instructional programs.
  • Create and update bibliographies and library guides, in print and online.
  • Assist with collection development.
  • Assist at the Circulation Desk.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • ALA accredited Master's degree in Library Science, Library & Information Science, or closely related field required.
  • Three (3) years experience and/or training that includes library operations, library information systems, reference services, bibliographic instruction, circulation services, and cataloging; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience (community college experience preferred).
  • Enthusiastic public service orientation and commitment to providing user-centered services is essential.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students.
  • Group instruction experience.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of instruction methodologies and information literacy principles preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electronic databases, Internet resources, integrated library systems and reference tools.
  • Basic personal computing skills and a willingness to learn new software programs.
  • Familiarity with collection development principles or experience with faculty liaison programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills exhibiting a high degree of flexibility and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to use initiative to further departmental or library-wide goals.
  • Attention to detail a must.
  • Willingness to cross-train is essential.
  • Knowledge of instruction methodologies and information literacy principles preferred.
  • Familiarity with collection development principles or experience with faculty liaison programs.
  • Salary: $33.95-44.55 per hour based on Interval- Professional Staff Member (Eff 7/2024)
