About The Position

This position is responsible for providing reference, instruction and circulation services to students, faculty and staff. The work consists of varied professional librarian duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to provide librarian services to patrons of the San Juan College library. Success in this position results in the provision of quality library services to college students, faculty and staff.

Requirements

• Master's degree from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited college or university is required; or currently enrolled in a library science master's degree program from an accredited college or university with completion within six (6) months from date of hire.
• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.

Responsibilities

• Provides library reference services for faculty, staff, students and the general public.
• Assists in researching print and electronic sources.
• Assists in acquiring information from external sources.
• Develops and maintains library guides for specific subjects.
• Provides reference assistance through telephone, email, online chat, and in-person.
• Teaches course-integrated information literacy sessions to students.
• Collaborates with faculty to provide advanced library research instruction for students in discipline specific courses.
• Coordinates with other Reference and Instruction Librarians to ensure that each student receives comparable instruction.
• Assists with collection development.
• Creates and develops online librarian services for online-embedded classes.
• Trains and supervises library student employees when conducting special projects.
• Performs general circulation desk duties; checks materials in and out; collects library fines and other fees; adds and edits student, faculty, staff and public user information to library records.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
