About The Position

Basic Purpose: Positions in this job are assigned responsibilities related to facilitating reentry services for offenders discharged from incarceration by the department. Typical Functions: Coordinates reentry resources for returning citizens nearing release from incarceration. Assists returning citizens with resources for housing, employment, educational/skill development, health/medical and other necessary social networks, and living skills necessary to function within a community. Assists with reentry resources and needs of specialized offender populations such as, but not limited to veterans, aged, mental, physical disabled, sex offenders, etc. Collaborates with other state and local entities in various locations. Cultivates partnerships with public, private, non-profit and volunteer entities to expand reentry services for justice-involved individuals. May facilitate programmatic group sessions or reentry-based training or reentry resource fairs. Acts as a liaison with community resources and other agency staff. May prepare reports and maintain statistical information regarding reentry activities and resources. Assists case management staff with development and locating of reentry services for the purposes of completing individual transition plans. Level Descriptor: At this level employees are assigned responsibilities involving the direction or management of a major program, division, unit or function which is of moderate size and scope or perform professional level work involving program supervision, development, coordination, or implementation with responsibility for a major phase of a program which is large in size and scope. Responsibilities may include serving as an operating program manager assigned administrative, staff, or program responsibilities, performing functions in the areas of program management and development, providing guidance for operations and services, performing program planning, development and evaluation activities, and organizing and coordinating program services and activities. Incumbents will be expected to perform assigned duties at all levels of complexity and will provide guidance, supervision and training to assigned staff.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of case assessment methods, principles and techniques; team development, group dynamics and strength-based planning.
  • Ability to exercise time management in evaluating reentry situations; exercise good judgment in making decisions; present ideas and facts effectively and accurately; establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external entities; work cooperatively and effectively with others in a team situation; and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • A bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, criminology, counseling, education, criminal justice administration, or related field; and four (4) years of professional level correctional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive travel may be required.
