About The Position

This position is responsible for: Planning, developing, evaluating and providing the management needs of The Salvation Army Red Shield Youth Center in accordance with the approved vision and mission. Areas of responsibility include overall management, Center-wide safety, planning, vision, and leadership for all aspects of the Center, including programs and services. Collaborates and works under the leadership authority of the Area Commander/Corps Officer to establish vision, policies, strategic focus, priorities, and the general scope of services. Center serves youth between the ages of 5 - 18 years. The goal of the programs is to positively impact the lives of youth through activities and services. May be required to transport youth center members and staff to/from center and approved activities and events. Participating in the Salvation Army’s ministry advancement by collaborating with the Salvation Army Officers to ensure Red Shield Youth Centers provide an engaging, enriching and empowering environment where youth develop Christ-like character, preparing them to become tomorrow’s leaders. Serving as a liaison with Corps programming staff to identify and incorporate mission alignment and outcomes. Participates in providing direct services to youth and models a personal investment in building effective youth relationships and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in a related field AND minimum of three (3) years of overall professional work experience in operations management with a minimum of two years successful track record leading youth programs with a budget up to $500,000.00; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Position requires evenings and weekends as needed to supervise and respond to Center needs and requirements, includes meetings, phone calls, texts and emails as needed.
  • Valid State Driver’s License, required.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring all Tier 1 Red Shield Youth Center operational standards are implemented and maintained. Collaborate with Divisional Headquarters and the THQ Youth Department to adhere to the most current approved standards.
  • Responsible for facilitating and managing facility rentals as support funding for the RSYC programs.
  • Develops and maintains strategic partnerships to enhance programs; seeks and secures beneficial program partnerships to meet Center needs; develops alliances with youths, parents, families, funders, and community Centers; coordinates outside resources and experiential learning opportunities to enhance programs.
  • Creates and maintains positive relationships with staff, donors, vendors, partners, and community; represents the Center in a positive manner; makes presentations externally to promote the Center or program; assists with donor or stakeholder tours for funding; assists with The Salvation Army Command and Advisory Board projects and presentations; serves as a participate on internal and external committees.
  • Networks within the community; attend community events and represent the Center in a professional manner.
  • Host tours of the RSYC and speaks on behalf of the RSYC programs, budgets, and public relations.
  • Develops and implements a plan to promote and recruit new participants; designs, develops and plans implementation of the afterschool programs and weekend programming; ensures that youth are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program areas.
  • Plans and controls Center program and activity expenditures within approved budget.
  • Secures sponsorships, grants, memberships, and donations to support the RSYC.
  • Manages the safe and routine use of the facilities year round; ensures the Center facilities have the appropriate safety and maintenance measures in place to provide for the safety and security of facility operations, people, and programs on an ongoing basis.
  • Plans, monitors and ensures the implementation of sound safety practices throughout programming; ensures that Center always complies with TSA Safe from Harm; ensures safety procedures are reviewed regularly, implemented, and inspected for compliance.
  • Conducts safety assessments and ensures youth feedback are reviewed and used to improve practices.
  • Collaborates with TSA Human Resources and Area Commander/Corps Officer, provides leadership and direct supervision to the leadership team of the Center and indirect supervision to their staff.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with all areas of the Center and leadership team to be successful in position.
  • Ensures the implementation and maintenance of quality annual performance reviews, quarterly performance check-in and ongoing performance feedback to Center employees; ensures regular and consistent review of staff performance to recognize, correct and address staff performance.
  • Ensures successful adherence to all HR/Employment policies and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure a safe environment.
  • Onboards and trains Center employees on an ongoing basis to ensure a prepared and engaged team ready to serve youth needs.
  • Collaborates with the THQ-Youth Department in identifying appropriate training for all levels of Center staffing positions; ensures that a training and development plan is created and implemented each year for the Center team both for individual positions and in the collective.
  • Manages the comprehensive collection and reporting of information for programs; ensures the data integrity of collection and reporting of programs; ensures the regular and routine processes for data collection and reporting.
  • Structures the database(s) and reporting to align with programming goals and reporting requirements.
  • Completes the regular and as needed reporting to funding agencies and donors on program performance.
  • Trains and supports staff to use data and reporting to support data-based decision making at the center level and program level.
  • May be responsible for safely transporting center members and staff to or from school, activities or programs, and is responsible for the proper reporting of maintenance, cleanliness, and safety needs of the assigned vehicle.
  • Participates and networks with professional associations of like programs and Centers.
  • Completes special projects as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
