About The Position

The Apprentice Laborer position is designed for individuals to learn and perform essential tasks related to loading operations, including maintaining cleanliness and safety in the work environment. The role involves hands-on training under the supervision of the Loading Supervisor, focusing on operational tasks such as cleaning concentrate spillage, assisting in barge operations, and adhering to safety protocols. The position requires working in various weather conditions and may involve extended periods in remote locations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
• Must pass a physical-fit exam.
• Must possess a valid TWIC card.
• Basic knowledge or comprehension of operating machinery, pumps, fluid dynamics, and vacuum systems is a plus.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a steel deck.
• Ability to work 3-4 weeks in remote locations.
• Ability to fly in a fixed-wing or rotor blade aircraft.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Loading Supervisor in making the barge fast with mooring lines upon arrival at the load cells.
• Survey and prioritize cleanup work during loading operations with the Loading Supervisor.
• Clean and perform maintenance inside barge workspaces as assigned.
• Learn to assist in surveying the barge for trim and list.
• Accurately read draft level indicators and measure freeboard readings as requested.
• Operate a radio and maintain constant communication with the Loading Supervisor for safety.
• Assist in casting off lines when loading is complete and the barge is ready to depart.
• Perform maintenance and repair tasks during lay periods as assigned.
