About The Position

The position involves performing administrative work related to scheduling recycling routes, ensuring equipment is in working order, scheduling repairs, monitoring and completing reports from staff, training new staff, overseeing all operations for curbside collection, and code enforcement. The work is performed under the limited supervision of the Recycling Administrator, with continuous supervision exercised over all personnel within the team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Moderate experience in recycling or solid waste operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to plan and lay out the work of a number of crews.
  • Ability to analyze work operations and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to read maps.
  • Ability to understand and apply governmental accounting practices and maintenance of financial records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Manages daily schedules and routes with Recycling Coordinator and drivers.
  • Reviews and assigns the routes and collection methods of crews in residential recycling collection; ensures collection and disposal meet environmental standards.
  • Ensures the proper utilization of staff and equipment; provides recommendations for additional staff and equipment.
  • Prepares weekly and monthly progress reports; files all accident reports.
  • Ensures citizen complaints are properly processed and recycling violations are corrected with the help of the recycling administrator.
  • Develops programs of preventive maintenance on equipment in conjunction with garage personnel.
  • Inspects collection routes to ensure adequacy and timeliness of work.
  • Manages the end of the day check in process, capturing and communicating key service, safety, and equipment issues.
  • Reviews weekly demand/volume for routes, determines potential gains from re-routing and recommends re-routes to appropriate staff.
