About The Position

The Recycling Analytics Manager supports TRP’s efforts to evaluate the performance of the U.S. residential recycling system and measure the impact of its projects and initiatives. The role manages systems that collect and organize project metrics, ensures data accuracy through quality control and documentation, and collaborates with staff, grantees, and partners involved in project implementation. The manager analyzes and interprets project and study data using standardized methodologies, helps design and implement measurement plans with internal teams and external consultants, and contributes to building a consistent, results-focused framework that supports data-driven decision-making and advances TRP’s long-term mission and impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field such as Engineering, Economics, Computer Science, Complex Systems, Data Science, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline; or equivalent technical education or professional experience
  • 2+ years of experience in data analysis, data cleansing, and performance measurement
  • 2+ years of experience in data visualization and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience organizing, analyzing, and interpreting complex datasets to identify trends, insights, and opportunities
  • Strong data exploration, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience developing standardized metrics, methodologies, and reporting tools to ensure consistency and data quality
  • Understanding of data and analytics, research methods, basic statistical analysis, and U.S. residential recycling material flow
  • Knowledge of how local governments manage recycling programs, including relationships between municipalities and Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs)
  • Knowledge of recycling collection and processing system methodologies, metrics, and system types
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings and present insights to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, consultants, and external partners
  • Demonstrated curiosity about data analysis and a desire to continuously learn, grow, and adapt in a changing environment

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Data Science, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Statistics, or a related field
  • Understanding of the solid waste and recycling industry at the municipal, state, and national levels
  • Knowledge of recycling collection and processing system methodologies and system types
  • Experience designing, leading, and evaluating large-scale or multi-site studies, including capture studies or system performance assessments
  • Experience supporting grant-funded programs and working with grantees to implement measurement plans
  • Familiarity with SQL datasets and basic query structures
  • Experience developing or maintaining dashboards and performance reporting systems for organizational leadership
  • Familiarity with survey design, applied research methodologies, and program evaluation techniques
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, public-sector, or mission-driven organization

Responsibilities

  • Compile, organize and analyze results from TRP grants, initiatives, projects, and studies to identify trends, insights, and opportunities.
  • Support the development and use of standardized report templates and internal tools for collecting and analyzing data.
  • Respond to data analysis requests and assist with data gathering efforts across Partnership programs.
  • Document findings from analytical activities and ensure accurate, timely entry of results into internal databases.
  • Support Data and Analytics Unit efforts to develop effective tools and models, and to gather and document attributes of the national recycling system.
  • Conduct research as needed to collect relevant recycling system data.
  • Engage with the Materials and Participation and Capture Impact Units during project scoping to support the estimation and documentation of projected outcomes in AirTable.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Recycling Analytics to review study designs, grant proposals, and individual projects as needed, providing feedback on measurement plans, methodology, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the implementation of measurement plans in coordination with project managers, grantees, consultants and facilities, ensuring data quality, methodological rigor, and adherence to project objectives.
  • Assist in compiling and reviewing project and study results to ensure outcomes are clear, accessible, and available to inform organizational priorities and future work.
  • Support the planning, management, and execution of a variety of measurement activities, including capture studies, behavior assessments, and other measurement activities based on organizational priorities.
  • Participate in measurement activities, such as waste/materials sorts and other data collection exercises, to build a deeper understanding of effective measurement practices and methodologies.
  • Coordinate with the Demand and Materials Units to support materials-specific measurement efforts and apply insights on materials generation and capture to Materials Action Plans.
  • Assist in identifying and applying measurement best practices and methodologies across measurement activities.
  • Support the evaluation of projects and initiatives, tracking performance against organizational key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Engage directly with systems used by The Partnership, including AirTable, to gather and track project metrics, to gather and track project metrics, ensure projects are accurately recorded, monitor data quality, and support organizational use of this platform.
  • Collaborate with the Data and Analytics Unit to produce and maintain metrics dashboards and reporting tools that document organizational performance and support data-driven decision making.
  • Assist in producing documents, reports, and other materials, such as State Tear Sheets, that compile project and initiatives metrics, as well as recycling system data, to demonstrate Recycling Partnership understanding and impact.
