About The Position

Silver Lake Hospital of Newark, NJ is seeking to hire a full time experienced Recreational Therapist with b ehavioral health experience to plan and coordinate interactive recreational programs for patients who experience acute mental health symptoms and substance use. ABOUT SILVER LAKE HOSPITAL Silver Lake Hospital's brand-new state of the art inpatient dual diagnosis program is seeking to hire a full time Recreational Therapist. Our acute inpatient dual diagnosis program provides inpatient treatment for adults who experience acute mental health symptoms and substance use. We are looking for compassionate, warm, caring and highly professional health care individuals who have a passion for helping others. POSITION SUMMARY The Recreational Therapist will plan, direct, and coordinate medically approved recreation programs for patients in the Dual Diagnosis program. This position facilitates multiple groups a day, completes group documentation and communicates with other members of the treatment team via treatment planning, team meetings or other means. The Recreational Therapist will also assess patient condition and recommend appropriate recreational activity. This position does involve direct patient care for a population of patients between the ages of 18 and older and does require age specific experience, specialized training and/or expertise to serve this population.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college with a specialization in Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology/Psychiatric Rehabilitation, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of mental health work related skill, knowledge, or experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire from the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical, time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and reliability.
  • Ability to relate well to patients, families, co-workers, and physicians.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist-CTRS- preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire from the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association preferred.
