About The Position

Memorial Rehabilitation Institute provides highly specialized care ranging from complex multiple trauma, stroke and brain injury to physical and speech therapy. Inpatient care is offered at Memorial Regional Hospital South, with outpatient care available in five different locations. We also have a home health team and resources for long-term care at Memorial Manor, while also offering therapy for pediatric developmental diagnosis through Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Summary: Performs evaluations and develops a treatment plan using therapeutic recreational and leisure activities as modalities of treatment in individual sessions, small groups and large groups.

Requirements

• Bachelors: Recreation Therapy (Required)
• BLS American Heart E-Card (BLS AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
• BLS American Heart RQI E-Card (BLS AHA-RQI ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
• BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
• BLS Certification Grace (BLS GRACE) - Employee Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE)
• BLS Cert Red Cross (BLS RC) - Red Cross (RED CROSS)
• Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• No prior work experience required.

Nice To Haves

• CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) granted through the NCTRC

Responsibilities

• Provides patient and patient's family with information regarding leisure life styles and creates an awareness of recreational resources in their community.
• Evaluates each patient's progress and the effectiveness of the recreational therapy interventions.
• Coordinates therapeutic recreation activities for both large and small groups to observe patient response and encourage socialization.
• Conducts assessment and establishes recreational therapy treatment goals and objectives to meet the individual needs of patients.
