Dallas has again been ranked one of the nation’s “Best Rehabilitation Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report for 2025-2026 Responsibilities We are seeking a recreational therapist to join a multi-disciplinary team in the Outpatient setting. The candidate will join a large team serving patients in the day treatment setting. Patients served include those with a Spinal Cord Injuries (SCI) or an Acquired Brain Injury. The programs focus on return to the highest level of independence as well as community reintegration. The role involves quality care in one-on-on and small group setting to support return to functional and leisure activities, reduced stress in the home, and reduced caregiver burden. The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of adaptive equipment, tools, and resources available to support patients and families for functional outcomes following SCI and BI. Driving may be required.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Recreational Therapy or a related field.
  • Current national certification from NCTRC as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)
  • Skills: Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability to work with diverse patient populations.
  • Schedule: Must be available for weekend shifts; flexibility to pick up weekday shifts is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and implement recreational therapy programs tailored to patients’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs.
  • Conduct patient assessments and create individualized treatment plans to support rehabilitation goals.
  • Utilize a variety of therapeutic activities, including arts, music, games, exercise, and community outings, to promote functional improvement.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists.
  • Educate patients and families on the benefits of recreational therapy and provide strategies for continued engagement post-discharge.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient progress and participate in team meetings to discuss care plans.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with facility policies and safety guidelines.
