About The Position

Adolescent Wellness Academy is seeking a Recreational Therapist to facilitate structured, therapeutic recreation groups for adolescents ages 13–17 in our PHP and IOP programs at our Boca location. This role focuses on intentional, activity-based group experiences that promote emotional regulation, social connection, self-confidence, healthy routines, and skill development. Groups are structured, goal-oriented, and developmentally appropriate—supporting treatment while engaging teens through movement, games, teamwork, and experiential learning. This position is ideal for a Recreational Therapist who enjoys working with adolescents in a behavioral health setting and is confident managing group dynamics with energy, structure, and purpose.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field
  • Experience facilitating groups with adolescents in a therapeutic, behavioral health, residential, PHP/IOP, or structured program setting
  • Strong group leadership skills with the ability to manage high-energy or resistant teens
  • Ability to work in-person at our Boca Raton, FL location
  • Reliable, professional, and consistent presence

Nice To Haves

  • CTRS certification
  • Experience in adolescent mental health or trauma-informed settings
  • Background in experiential, movement-based, or team-building group facilitation
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Confident, engaging, and grounded facilitation style
  • Comfortable working within a multidisciplinary treatment team

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate therapeutic recreation groups within PHP and IOP levels of care
  • Design and lead structured, activity-based groups that support: Emotional regulation Social skills and peer connection Coping skills and frustration tolerance Confidence, engagement, and healthy routines
  • Maintain clear group structure, boundaries, and emotional safety
  • Engage adolescents with varying levels of motivation, attention, and behavioral needs
  • Manage group energy, transitions, and dynamics effectively
  • Collaborate with clinical, nursing, and program teams to support overall treatment goals
  • Complete required group notes and documentation accurately and on time
  • Uphold a trauma-informed, youth-centered, and values-aligned environment
