This job provides planned therapeutic recreation sessions for patients in the psychiatric units. Participates in treatment team meetings, assesses each patient's recreational needs, plans appropriate interventions, evaluates effectiveness, and documents same. Serves as a role model for a healthy, adaptive life style and participates in treatment of patients with psychiatric and substance abuse diagnosis To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements

  • Education Required - Bachelor's degree in recreational therapy.
  • Work Experience Required - None.
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout required job processes.
  • Ability to lead exercise activities using proper body mechanics.
  • Ability to physically subdue and/or physically restrain patients who are severely agitated or combative.
  • Ability to assist with lift/transport of patient.
  • Ability to attend occasional outside activities and work extended hours.
  • Ability to travel throughout and between facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred - Experience in psychiatry.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, coordinates, and implements a therapeutic recreation program on assigned unit.
  • Coordinates patient assessments, planning, and intervention.
  • Evaluates treatment plans.
  • Provides patient care with clinical competency.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
