About The Position

Join our team as we open our new, state of the art, Inpatient Rehab Unit! Don't miss the opportunity to be a part of our state of the art Inpatient Rehab Unit within Hartford Hospital. All 26 beds are in private inpatient rooms giving our patients access to ongoing acute medical management, 24 hour rehabilitative nursing care and the latest rehab techniques. Our dedication to delivering personalized coordinated care coupled with the healing environment offered by this new unit will shorten length of stay and allow our patients a quicker and healthier return to home. We're seeking a dedicated and caring Recreational Therapist to be part of an experienced team that brings decades of experience in providing the most innovative care. This position will treat patients of all diagnoses with a focus on stroke, traumatic brain or spinal cord injuries, as well as other neurological conditions. Our new unit will feature a collaborative interdisciplinary team atmosphere and approach to patient care. This is a great opportunity to work in a special inpatient rehab setting, while still having access to the opportunities and benefits available in a system with a full continuum of rehab care.

Requirements

  • Current Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One year experience in acute care, extended care, rehabilitation, mental health or outpatient setting.

  • Clinical skills and knowledge to successfully achieve desired outcomes in assigned patients.
  • Ability to provide treatment to address the practical and realistic needs and goals of the patient.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evaluation and treatment upon physician referral to a patient population consisting of varying diagnosis.
  • Assess, identify and treat all areas of deficits impacting leisure, social interaction skills, community resources and community re-entry.
  • Provide instruction and education to the patient/caregiver to promote the safe execution of the facilitator techniques taught.
