About The Position

At Assisted Independence we believe that programming is an essential part to developing healthy lifestyles and friendships. We currently have a camping, cycling, kayaking, Holiday World, and horticulture program in place and looking to add many more! The nature of the job as a Recreational Therapist is to provide care to individuals with physical and developmental disabilities in home and community-based settings on a 1:1 or group setting basis. The nature of the job is to provide a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions, as a means to psychological and physical health, recovery and well-being.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Active certification from the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • First Aid Certification.
  • Negative Tuberculin Skin Test.
  • Valid Driver’s License, Vehicle Registration, and Automobile Insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with self-care, self-direction, expressive or receptive language, ambulation or mobility, Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s), learning, independent living, economic self-sufficiency, physical activity, and community participation.
  • Schedule times to provide supports with the individual receiving supports, their parents and/or guardians, and/or other team members.
  • Conduct assessments initially and once annually, including completion of Individual Intake Forms and various assessments for individuals supported.
  • Develop a Treatment Plan within fourteen days after the completion of the Assessment.
  • Organize and direct home and/or community-based activities for individuals supported.
  • Document each session using narrative notes online and attend quarterly meetings.
