Identity of applicants who become finalists may be released to the public if the Department deems it necessary. Employees who exceed 1,040 hours in a calendar year are also provided health, dental and life insurance. Other benefits include retirement, paid vacation, sick and holidays. This position may be covered by a VEBA (Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association). A successful applicant will be subject to a background investigation. Women and minorities are under-represented in this job category and are encouraged to apply. This position will be based in Placid Lake State Park. This position will primarily be required to work Wednesday through Sunday, normal days off will be Monday-Tuesday. Other workdays might arise as needed, these additional workdays might include special events, holidays, or coverage during workers absence. This position will occasionally require travel and participation in meetings and trainings. Outdoor physical labor is required. Incumbent must be able to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions and irregular hours. Must be able to navigate stairs, steep slopes, rocky terrain, fore's & brush environments, flat water and swift river water (including boats & docks); all while under possible inclement weather and uneven outdoor work environments. The incumbent must be in good overall physical condition to withstand the rigors and demands of outdoor work. The position will be active May through September to best ensure that the park has adequately trained staff on-site from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. This position will be based near one of Montana's most wonderfully scenic mountain communities, Seeley Lake. With small town charm and a close-knit community that is neatly nestled in a pristine mountain valley where outdoor recreation opportunities abound.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education.
  • General knowledge of basic customer service and safe work habits
  • Ability to: educate and inform visitors on compliance with rules and regulations and State laws; collect fees and make change; sell merchandise and account for monies collected; read, maintain, and prepare records and reports; and assist visitors in emergency situations.
  • Daily interaction with site visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of college or vocational training experience in park and recreation management, interpretive visitor center, or closely related setting is preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • collect fees
  • conduce sales
  • operate ORMS (Online Reservation Management System)
  • identify hazards and act on them accordingly
  • assist in park grounds upkeep and maintenance
  • clean latrines
  • clean and basic maintenance of comfort station/shower facility
  • clean and maintain all individual campsites
  • routine, and regular grounds patrol to address noncompliance of food storage rules
  • assist in other routine park responsibilities as needed
