Aquarion Water Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eversource.Job SummaryThe primary function of this role is to promote watershed protection through interaction with visitors to Aquarion’s recreation areas. The work is accomplished by monitoring recreation areas; interacting with stakeholders to assure conformance to the rules put in place to protect drinking water quality; and assisting with the safe and orderly enjoyment of the limited recreation areas. This role requires knowledge, skills and abilities related to land use, wildlife management, outdoor recreation, and the regulation of public water supply systems.

Requirements

  • Must possess a safety-first attitude and comply with all safety rules, regulations and policies.
  • Knowledge of outdoor recreation activities, especially fishing and hiking.
  • Works rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. Often works alone.
  • Essential functions are performed primarily outdoors in and around wooded areas, lakes, and rivers/streams.
  • Works in all weather conditions, including inclement weather.
  • Prolonged standing, walking over uneven terrain.
  • Use of hand tools, ability to climb ladders, occasional need to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to swim.
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a CT Boating Safety Certificate.
  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR, AED certification.
  • Must have or be able to obtain CT Security Guard certification.

Nice To Haves

  • The ideal candidate is bilingual (Spanish) and has a love of outdoor recreation. Relevant work experience may include park ranger, marine patrol, park maintainer, educator or other public-facing roles.

Responsibilities

  • Promote an understanding and appreciation of watershed function; the link to the region’s public water supply; and the need for watershed protection among recreation area visitors.
  • Understand recreation program rules and effectively communicate the purpose of the rules (i.e., to protect the watershed function and preserve wildlife habitat).
  • Patrol reservoir fishing areas and roughly 20 miles of hiking trails. Check user permits; address rule violations with visitors.
  • Log all interactions with visitors, including documentation of rule violations.
  • Coordinate with Watershed staff, as needed, to address garbage, dumping, damage to gates, signage or other issues.
