About The Position

The Recreational Mentor position at Florida Children's Homes involves working directly with male youths in foster care, providing supervision, guidance, and mentoring in a safe and nurturing environment. The role focuses on engaging the youths in recreational activities, both indoors and outdoors, while building trusting relationships to support their healing from trauma, abuse, and neglect. This full-time position operates Monday through Friday from 1 PM to 9 PM, emphasizing the importance of creating a fun and supportive atmosphere for the children.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth in a residential setting.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record over the past three years.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in recreational activities with youth, including sports and outdoor play.

  • Provide structure and act as a positive role model for the youth.
  • Teach and supervise daily hygiene and care for the youth.
  • Utilize crisis management strategies to manage challenging behaviors.
  • Participate in group and one-on-one interactions to address youth concerns and needs.
  • Assist with school work and reinforce life skills.
