We’re seeking a Recreational Marine Underwriter to manage new business and medium to large renewals, drive profitability, and foster strong relationships within your assigned agency network. You will abide by department standards and act a mentor to the underwriting team, coordinate loss control efforts, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This role also involves attending educational seminars and industry events to develop product knowledge and become a market expert.

  • New Business & Renewals: Write new business and large renewal commercial accounts, ensuring production aligns with rate, retention, and profit goals.
  • Team Leadership: Provide direction and support to teammates (Analysts, Raters, Underwriting Assistants, Junior Underwriters, BOP), delegating tasks as needed.
  • Agency Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with assigned agencies, conducting visits as necessary to foster growth and collaboration.
  • Loss Control & Claims Coordination: Coordinate required loss control and claims services to ensure appropriate risk management.
  • Referral Management: Refer items exceeding your authority to the Department Manager, providing thorough analysis and recommendations.
  • Workflow Management: Maintain an efficient workflow for your territory, ensuring alignment with departmental standards and driving continuous improvement.
  • Reinsurance Negotiation: Negotiate facultative reinsurance on accounts as required to mitigate risk and optimize profitability.
  • Training & Development: Assist in training colleagues, sharing knowledge and providing guidance to enhance team capabilities and performance.
  • Industry Engagement: attend relevant industry related events and educational seminars to gain market intelligence and knowledge.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track new business results, hit ratios, lost business, and profitability against departmental goals to ensure alignment with targets.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure policies meet operational and compliance standards by verifying issued policies against quotes, ensuring compliance with state and carrier regulations, and maintaining a 99% product accuracy rate.
  • Service Standard Adherence: Maintain excellent service levels by responding to agent emails and phone calls within one business day to ensure efficient communication.
  • Broker Communication: Serve as a primary point of contact for brokers, addressing questions related to policies, coverage, billing, and other inquiries in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Document Compliance: Actively follow up on missing documentation from brokers, ensuring full compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • 2-4 years of experience in marine underwriting, including a focus on recreational marine facilities

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred)
