About The Position

The Recreation Leader supports the Parks & Recreation Department by assisting with a wide range of programs and activities, including youth sports, special events, clinics, and weekend programs. This role involves helping with program registration, preparation, and implementation, supervising athletes and officials, distributing equipment, and providing excellent customer service to participants and the public. Recreation Leaders work closely with department staff to develop and share program information, ensure safety policies are followed, and maintain a positive and engaging environment for all participants. Evening work, typically from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., is required to support sports programs.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates familiarity with and knowledge of sports programs offered by Parks and Recreation.
  • Exhibits strong communication skills with both internal and external customers.
  • Effectively defuses and handles conflict.
  • Works well in a team environment and independently as needed.
  • Utilizes computer software programs, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe applications.
  • Prioritizes work and manages multiple demands efficiently.
  • Solves problems with minimal or no direct supervision.
  • Maintains strong time management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Recreation Department staff with all programs and activities, including youth sports (3rd-6th Basketball, 3rd-6th Volleyball, K-2nd Basketball, Fall Adult Volleyball), special events, and weekend programs.
  • Assist and supervise Recreation Staff in developing and distributing program information, such as fliers and letters.
  • Support program registration, preparation, and implementation.
  • Supervise and work with athletes and officials on all aspects of each recreation program.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external participants, answering questions about programs and activities.
  • Work evenings as needed, typically from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., to support sports programs.
  • Adhere to the City of Craig Parks and Recreation program philosophy.
  • Follow safety policies and practices established by the Recreation Department.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants enrolled in recreation programs, including maintaining CPR, First Aid, and AED training.
  • Ensure proper distribution of equipment for all recreation programs and activities.
