Requirements

  • Requires certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation required.
  • Requires 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires strong knowledge of Recreation Therapy Standards of Care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides therapeutic, recreational and leisure services to patients/clients, including development of individual treatment plans.
  • Provides consultation to physicians and others regarding appropriateness of referral to recreational therapy.
  • Documents patient/ client programs and progress, educates the patient/ client and others regarding recreational therapy programs.
  • Willingly participates in related activities in support of patient/ client care, education and department operations.
  • Acts as a resource or mentor and provides functional guidance to the team.
  • Coordinates staff/patient scheduling, orientation and training.
  • Ensures proper clinical documentation and monitors workload to ensure staff utilization.
  • Depending on unit covering, may be required to obtain “for hire” endorsement on driver’s license to drive a 15-passenger accessible bus.
  • CTRS or eligibility to sit for exam is required; will not be able to start until CTRS is active.
  • CTRS, may be required to obtain “for hire” endorsement on driver’s license; will be required to obtain car seat specialist certification.
