About The Position

About the Position: The incumbent in this position is responsible for the planning and supervision of various types of recreational activities; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; communicating effectively, both orally and in writing; exercising initiative and independent judgment; and working with mentally ill clients. Typical job functions include but are not limited to: Planning and implementing therapeutic recreational programs and activities for an assigned caseload of patients. Conducting interviews, tests and other procedures to evaluate the patient’s needs, attitudes, interests and abilities. Developing a therapeutic intervention plan based on observations, tests and other information, evaluating patient’s participation in program activities and progress towards established goals and objectives and documenting response to various treatments and activities. Performing supervisory duties on a limited basis

Requirements

  • Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, physical education or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be open to job-related travel (e.g., training).
  • Participation in an on-call rotation unless exempted.
  • Upon appointment, incumbents designated by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services shall complete certification in one of the following required Departmental sponsored trainings in case management: Certified Behavioral Health Case Manager – Adult; Certified Behavioral Health Case Manager – Child, Adolescent and Family; or Certified Behavioral Health Case Manager – Dual Certification.
