About The Position

San Marcos Treatment Center, a 212-bed, seclusion free, psychiatric residential treatment facility located between Austin and San Antonio in the heart of Central Texas! San Marcos spreads across 65-acres with an abundance of trees and wildlife. We have 13 unique living units separated by gender, age, and development levels with two swimming pools, two gymnasiums, sports court, playing fields, ropes course, canteen, social area, and a healing trail. We provide 24-hour psychiatric care to girls and boys ages 6 to 17 with customized therapeutic approaches and intensive behavioral programs teach young patients to moderate their behavior, manage emotions and improve social functioning. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreational Therapy required.
  • Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) required.
  • Working knowledge of recreational therapy programming.
  • Effective oral and written communication skill.
  • Extensive sitting, standing, walking, reading, lifting over (50 lbs.) pounds and participation in active physical recreational program.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years’ experience providing Recreation/Activities Therapy, preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in a psychiatric setting with adolescents and child population, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides and implements a recreational assessment on each patient
  • Provides an assortment of leisure activities
  • Assists patients in developing an understanding of benefits of ongoing health and fitness. Assists patients to improve social interaction, coping skills, problem solving skills, anger management skills, and any skills that relates to address the functioning of the human domains to increase overall quality of life.
  • Works with treatment team to develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs
  • Maintains recreational areas and equipment
  • Completes documentation accurately and timely
  • Maintains observation of patients and shares appropriate information with manager. Other duties as assigned.
