About The Position

The City of Norfolk Department of Parks and Recreation is hiring for a Recreation Supervisor to plan, implement and evaluate a wide variety of programs within our Aquatic Center sites. This position will be responsible for managing the overall operation of the center and supervise personnel to provide excellent customer service and be resources to residents visiting the center. As an integral part of Team Norfolk, the Recreation Supervisor may work on planning committees for city-wide activities and assist in implementing those activities. Norfolk's department of Parks and Recreationis proud to announce it has been awarded national accreditation by the Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies. This ensures we will continue to provide quality recreational services that enrich the lives of Norfolk's residents. Department Starting Hiring Salary: $51,000

Requirements

  • Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Two years' experience in recreation, fitness, aquatics, athletics or related field.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR AED - PR/First Aid (or equivalent)
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Management (or equivalent)
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (or equivalent)
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor
  • Valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Manages a center or cluster of centers by conducting site visits, providing for control, safety and security of the facility, providing recommendations for improvement, monitoring the budget, evaluating programs, delivering supplies, interpreting policies, training and scheduling employees, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Performs and records water chemistry tests.
  • Develops implements and evaluates aquatic programs and budgets.
  • Completes all required paperwork, including daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports as well as incident and accident reports.
  • Attends all required staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Interacts with citizens by greeting customers, handling inquiries, addressing
  • Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates daily programs and special events.
