About The Position

The Recreation Supervisor is responsible for developing and implementing a diverse range of community programs that align with identified needs and organizational goals. While the overall scope of programming is broad, a primary emphasis will be placed on fitness and wellness initiatives that support the health and well-being of the community. In addition, this position oversees all dog park programming, a summer camp program, and serves as the lead for several large-scale CWPD events, ensuring successful planning, execution, and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Degree in recreational management, parks and recreation or related course of study (4-year degree preferred)
  • Maintain 1st aid, CPR, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogen certifications
  • Group and program leadership skills
  • Ability to organize various resources into a program
  • Ability to teach leadership and instructional techniques to part-time and seasonal staff
  • Knowledge of community and regional resources that can be enlisted to create or enhance programs
  • Effectively communicate with fellow staff, partners, and the public with both spoken and written word
  • Ability to provide appropriate information to a wide range of ages and abilities
  • Prepare periodic reports, maintain files and records using standard office software
  • Confidently manage registration software, internet and social media avenues
  • Embrace and actively promote an inclusive and equitable work environment, showing respect and sensitivity to cultural differences and serving a diverse customer base
  • Proficient in Windows-based computer systems
  • Ability to work well with others and as part of a team
  • Be able to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test, physical examination and background check
  • Be insurable by park district insurance to operate vehicles
  • The ability to stay flexible when plans change
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Build and nurture programming partnerships and joint ventures
  • Create a variety of avenues for community to be outdoors via parks and programs

Responsibilities

  • Ensure opportunity to access programs regardless of ability, socio or economic status

  • Research industry trends and apply when appropriate
