About The Position

The Recreation Supervisor position provides support for a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps program is a federally-funded residential training program. The mission of Job Corps is to provide career-ready technical and academic training and job placement assistance to program eligible youth ages 16-24. Summary of Duties: Responsible for monitoring and directing students engaged in center-sponsored recreational activities on- and off-center in compliance with government and management directives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in a related field or equivalent combination of education and related field plus supervisory experience in operating a youth athletic program.
  • Valid state driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Follows all integrity guidelines and procedures and ensures no manipulation of student data.
  • Assists students in adjusting to Center life by providing supervision, behavior modification and acting as a mentor.
  • Responsible for the management of the department.
  • Oversees staff members assigned to this department.
  • Ensures staff members have adequate training to complete key areas of responsibilities.
  • Provides documented training to staff. Cross-trains department employees. Coordinates staff meetings.
  • Ensures that all staff participates in CMT.
  • Develops and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensures department is compliant with all safety standards and expectations to include proper workmen’s compensation reporting.
  • Ensures department is in compliance with all DOL, Corporate and Center requirements.
  • Administer an effective and quality recreation program.
  • Develops programs that promote productive and socially acceptable uses of leisure time.
  • Assists students in understanding and developing lifelong leisure time skills and habits.
  • Builds students’ self-esteem by developing teamwork, good sports conduct, and other positive social behaviors.
  • Enhances the Job Corps experience for students by providing them with opportunities to participate in enjoyable and safe activities.
  • Ensures that students can demonstrate the appropriate use of facilities and equipment.
  • Ensures that all students participate in the water safety program. Develops and implements a successful off- Center leisure time employment program.
  • Develops and maintains a calendar of recreational activities and events, and distributes the schedule to students in advance of activities listed.
  • Helps to develop and maintain a functioning Continuing Education program.
  • Conducts surveys of students’ recreational interests and participation, and utilizes the information gathered in planning recreational activities.
  • Ensures that recreational activities contain community service projects.
  • Monitors budget and related areas for assigned department and maintains spending limits as applicable.
  • Ensures equipment assigned to the department is properly accounted for and maintained in good condition.
  • Tracks spending of staff each month and provides feedback for over/under spending.
  • Notifies the Center Director of repairs/costs above routine expenditures.
  • Identifies successes and areas of improvement. Delegates tasks or responsibilities for the purpose of developing others’ abilities. Rewards good performance and promotes employee recognition.
  • Ensures that departmental staff completes all DOL, Corporate and Center training as required and demonstrates competencies accordingly.
  • Supports the CDSS initiatives.
  • Develops and implements a productive Work-based Learning program to include the development of students’ employability and social skills.
  • Explores innovative ways to incorporate recreation activities into the students’ academic and CTT learning.
  • Participates on a SGA committee.
  • Displays management effectiveness: Builds pride and commitment through effective teamwork and collaboration. Adheres to established company policies and procedures, and supports all programs. Delivers timely coaching and conducts employee evaluations when scheduled. Makes effective use of time, materials and resources by planning, scheduling and organizing work. Communicates in an open and honest manner. Sets appropriate performance goals for staff.
  • Demonstrates excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills: Hires and promotes employees based on sound decision-making ability. Improves processes within department, emphasizing quality and efficiency. Anticipates and resolves problems, demonstrating good judgment. Provides leadership in developing and implementing solutions.
  • Plans physical education program to promote development of student's physical attributes and social skills.
  • Adapts recreation programs, teaches individual and team sports to students, utilizing knowledge of sports techniques and of physical capabilities of students.
  • Organizes, leads, instructs, and referees indoor and outdoor games such as volleyball, baseball, and basketball.
  • Instructs individuals or groups in beginning or advanced calisthenics, or corrective exercises, determining type and level of difficulty of exercises, corrections needed, and prescribed movements.
  • Confers with students, staff, and counselors, to resolve student problems.
  • Selects, stores, orders, issues, and inventories equipment, materials, and supplies used in physical education program.
  • Assists in conducting recreation activities in community center or other voluntary recreation facility by performing the following duties.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises recreation, athletics, and special activities including games, sports, hiking, cultural events, dances, talent shows, and other leisure-time activities.
  • Assists supervisor in developing recreational programs and schedules.
  • Arranges chairs, tables, and sporting or exercise equipment in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled group activities such as parties, group meetings, or sports events.
  • Notifies patrons of activity schedules and registration requirements.
  • Monitors spectators and participants at sports events to ensure orderly conduct.
  • Keeps attendance records or scores at sporting events, operates audiovisual equipment, and monitors activities of children during recreational trips or tours.
