About The Position

The City of Birmingham is seeking a Recreation Supervisor responsible for overseeing the daily operations of multiple recreation centers and aquatic facilities. This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive recreational programs to meet community needs, planning and scheduling athletic activities, leagues, and special events. The position requires both indoor office work and outdoor site visits, with potential evening and weekend hours.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Sports and Recreation Management, Parks and Recreation Management, Physical Education, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Verifiable experience directly supervising employees, including coordinating work activities and reviewing performance.
• Experience communicating with diverse groups through written and verbal communication.
• Experience planning, implementing, and directing large-scale recreational and sports programs.

Nice To Haves

• Experience using Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience assisting or developing departmental budgets.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of multiple recreation centers and aquatic facilities.
• Develop and implement comprehensive recreational programs to meet community needs.
• Plan, schedule, and oversee athletic activities, leagues, and special events.
• Prepare, monitor, and administer departmental budgets, ensuring expenditures are within limits.
• Communicate and interact with various groups to promote parks and recreation activities and gather feedback.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for the Recreation Center and its programs.
• Procure and manage inventory to meet operational needs.
• Supervise staff by assigning work, monitoring progress, and providing feedback and training.
