About The Position

The Recreation Supervisor of Aquatics is an integral member of the Recreation Division and is responsible for the safe, compliant, and customer-focused operation of the City of Greeley’s aquatic facilities and programs. This role provides leadership and direction for Aquatics Coordinators, a Pool Technician, and 90+ part-time/seasonal employees, and is directly responsible for operations across two indoor pools, two outdoor pools/water park, and two splash pads. The Recreation Supervisor of Aquatics leads public safety efforts including staff certifications, risk management training and documentation, emergency response practices, contract/user group management, state regulatory compliance, and program delivery. This position partners closely with Administration to develop, evaluate, grow, and oversee aquatics budgets, revenues, and expenditures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree gained through a four-year college/university academic program or specialized technical training of equivalent length.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Certifications in American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR for professional rescuer, Lifeguard Training Instructor Trainer, and Water Safety Instructor.
  • Certification in CPO or AFO required.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5)+ years of progressively responsible aquatics experience, including supervisory responsibility in a multi-facility environment (municipal or similarly complex setting preferred).
  • Experience overseeing outdoor aquatic operations (water park features, splash pads), including seasonal start-up/shut-down and weather/emergency operations.
  • Experience with aquatics budgeting, cost recovery, revenue tracking, purchasing, and performance measures.
  • Experience managing contracts/user groups (rentals, swim teams, lessons providers, special events) including scheduling, fee development, and agreements.
  • Demonstrated experience building staff training programs for risk management, customer service, and emergency response.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and develops Aquatics Coordinators, Pool Technician, and hourly staff and ensures employees meet performance expectations and operate with a growth mindset.
  • Conducts staff meetings, individual coaching sessions, and regular training on customer service, risk management, emergency response, conflict resolution, point of sale, and other operational topics.
  • Collaborates with other Recreation Supervisors to ensure consistent staff expectations, recognition, discipline, and knowledge sharing across program and facility areas.
  • Develops, schedules, promotes, implements, leads, evaluates, and manages aquatic programs, special events, incentive programs, and collaborative recreation offerings based on community needs and interests.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for aquatic facility and program operations and supports annual operations of the Family Funplex and Recreation Center and seasonal operations of outdoor pools and splash pads.
  • Ensures aquatic facilities, programs, and operations comply with local, state, and federal guidelines and that standard operating procedures, emergency response plans, staff manuals, facility rules, agreements, and required forms are maintained and updated annually.
  • Trains staff in risk management procedures and ensures safe work practices are followed throughout facility and program operations.
  • Coordinates facility scheduling, reservation requests, maintenance, repairs, preventative maintenance, and mechanical system upkeep for aquatic facilities and assists with capital improvement projects.
  • Oversees the purchase of furniture, fixtures, equipment, payroll, timekeeping, budgets, expenditures, revenues, and performance measures related to aquatic facilities and programs and provides updates to senior leadership and applicable boards or committees.
  • Oversees membership and daily admission operations at outdoor aquatic facilities and provides quality customer service by building effective relationships with staff, participants, members, guests, community members, organizations, vendors, contractors, and partners.
  • Works with the Communication and Engagement Department and Recreation staff to develop marketing and communication plans and ensures marketing materials, websites, social media, and other public information are accurate and current.
  • Uses software and other tools for reporting, operational support, and assessment and ensures staff are trained in required systems and technology.
  • Supports the development and administration of surveys, focus groups, and other assessment tools to measure participant satisfaction, gather feedback, and identify opportunities for facility and program improvement.
  • Establishes and administers contracts, operating schedules, and rental fees with organizations and partners.
  • Solves a variety of operational and program issues by applying sound judgment, selecting and sequencing appropriate procedures, and determining practical courses of action within established standards and practices.
  • Regular local/field-based travel is required to City facilities and sites as part of job duties; access to a personal or City fleet vehicle may be required.
