About The Position

The Recreation Specialist is responsible for the planning and implementation of gym and recreation programming for children and adults at the Haven of Hope Community Center. The Recreation Specialist will collaborate with Community Center Director to plan gym and recreation programs for both adults and children and implement the planned programs at the agreed-upon schedles times. The Recreation Specialist coordinates with Community Center Director to adequately market gym and recreation programming internally and externally and collaborates with appropriate Eliza Shirley House and Red Sheild Family Residence staff as well as Haven of Hope Learning Zone Director to offer gym and recreation program participation to residents and Learning Zone participants. The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the candidate will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Must be knowledgeable and comfortable coaching a variety of sports.
  • Must be knowledgeable in developing and leading movement activities for adults and seniors.
  • Must conduct oneself in a manner that reflects credit on The Salvation Army and its leadership.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and be detail oriented.
  • Must possess a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.
  • Must be able to relate to others well.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must have a valid PA Driver’s License, as well as qualify for The Salvation Army’s insurance.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must possess an understanding of and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
