About The Position

Recreation Specialist - Sports is a professional-level recreation position responsible for organizing, supervising, developing, and promoting activities in a specific recreation/leisure area. These areas may include special events, arts and crafts, adult activities, youth activities, sports, community fitness programs, senior citizen activities, and pre-school activities. The position supports the goals of the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department, which enhances the quality of life for all Westminster citizens by providing diverse leisure, recreational, and informational services and resources; and acquiring, developing, and maintaining first-class parks, facilities, open space, and trails.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, or closely related field
  • A valid Colorado Driver's License and safe driving record throughout employment
  • CPR and Standard First Aid Certificate within ninety (90) days of employment

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in recreation facility, supervision, or recreation program planning and supervision
  • Knowledge of automated recreation software programs such as RecTrac and Teamsideline is desirable
  • Knowledge of multiple sports rules, including softball, soccer, pickleball, volleyball, and basketball

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, supervises, promotes, evaluates, coordinates, and develops program activities in a specific recreation/leisure area
  • Trains, supervises and coordinates the work of part-time, temporary, contractual, and volunteer personnel
  • Travels to visit various facilities when and where program activities occur on an as-needed or emergency basis, using a personal or City vehicle
  • Promotes various recreation programs using multiple methods, including activity guides, web pages, community awareness, and marketing plans
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance
  • Evaluates recreation activities and program staff for job performance, effectiveness, community needs, and quality of programs
  • Maintains records and statistics and completes reports such as staffing, attendance, performance, effectiveness, etc., as assigned
  • Maintains discipline in recreation areas and facilities
  • Maintains budget, including all accounting and purchasing records
  • Obtains funding levels through sponsorships, grants, and/or fundraising events to help offset the current event expenses
