About The Position

The Recreation Specialist at North Texas Job Corps Center is responsible for developing, conducting, and supervising a variety of leisure-time activities for students. This role requires availability during evenings and weekends and involves planning and organizing recreational services, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a positive environment for participation in activities.

Requirements

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
• Computer literacy with basic functions, email, internet, and programs like Adobe Acrobat.
• High level of communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of recreation activities, games, sports, arts, and crafts.
• Minimum of one to two years related experience and/or training, including one year working with youth and young adults.
• Associate of Arts Degree, preferably in a related field.
• Valid State Driver's License and Valid Commercial Driver's License Class B CDL with passenger endorsements.

Nice To Haves

• Lifeguard certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and supervise a variety of leisure-time activities for students.
• Plan, organize, and carry out the department's recreational services.
• Explain and demonstrate the use of supplies and equipment for activities.
• Administer a well-rounded program of diversified activities.
• Keep daily records of attendance in recreational activities.
• Maintain discipline, cleanliness, and inventory control in assigned areas.
• Post schedules of monthly activities and special events.
• Submit a schedule of special activities for the upcoming month to the supervisor.
• Maintain a stocked first aid kit in the assigned area.
• Assist in the recruitment of volunteers and supervise them in the recreation area.
• Chaperone and direct off-Center trips, ensuring necessary funds are available.
• Submit time sheets and reports timely according to Center policy.
• Train student leaders according to Center policy.
