About The Position

The Recreation Specialist (Aquatics Manager) position involves assisting the Recreation Manager in planning, developing, and maintaining a military recreational fitness program for active-duty military, dependents, retirees, and authorized civilians. The role includes planning, coordinating, and scheduling activities and events to maximize facility use. Safety is a priority, and the specialist will assist with the operation and cleaning of the pool, ensuring compliance with safety standards and chemical levels. Responsibilities also include overseeing aquatics programs, conducting swimming lessons, and managing staff and schedules.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience as a lifeguard.
  • Experience in planning and executing aquatic programs.
  • Current certification as a Lifeguard with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid.
  • Ability to obtain Water Safety Instructor and Certified Operator certifications within 6 months.
  • Experience in supervising and managing a workforce.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Adobe.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Capability to work around chemicals (CO2, Chlorine, testing reagents).
  • Normal color vision, pass a pre-employment physical, and hold a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years’ experience as a lifeguard.
  • 2 years’ experience as a supervisor.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certification.
  • Water Safety Instructor Trainer certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Recreation Manager with planning and maintaining a military recreational fitness program.
  • Coordinate and schedule recurring activities and special events.
  • Ensure safety and compliance in pool operations and maintenance.
  • Manage indoor recreational aquatics programs including swim lessons and open swim periods.
  • Conduct annual aquatic facility inspections.
  • Implement and oversee a swimming lesson program for youth.
  • Conduct monthly training programs for lifeguards.
  • Participate in other MWR activities and events as needed.
