About The Position

The Recreation Program Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, planning, organizing, and scheduling recreational programs for various community groups, including youth and seniors. This role involves supervisory and administrative duties, ensuring the safety and well-being of participants, and enforcing departmental policies. The specialist will also evaluate existing programs and make recommendations for improvements, while managing volunteers and seasonal staff.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year degree granting college or university.
• One year of experience in recreational work or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must obtain First Aid and CPR Certification with Practical Application within 6 months of employment.
• Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Creates, plans, schedules, implements, and supervises recreational programs or activities and events for youth, seniors, and specialized community.
• Ensures safety and well-being of program participants; enforces and follows policies and procedures.
• Participates in evaluation of existing programs, activities, and events; makes recommendations for changes and additional programming.
• Completes necessary forms, records, and reports for evaluation of programs, incidents, and statistics.
• Assists in preparation of documentation to support programs, events, activities, and associated costs and needs.
• May participate in grant writing and monitoring expenditures.
• Supervises volunteers and seasonal staff assisting with specialized programs.
• Attends staff and committee meetings.
• Performs other related duties.
