About The Position

The City of Richmond is seeking a part-time Recreation Program Specialist to engage with communities and empower residents through recreational activities. This position offers opportunities to lead and teach various activities related to recreation and sports, with specializations available in areas such as modern dance, puppetry, or tennis. The role also involves working with the North Richmond Mobile Tool Library, which includes operating the vehicle, maintaining an online tool catalog, creating marketing materials, and community engagement. Weekend and evening shifts are required. The hourly salary for this position can be as high as $27.65, and city-paid benefits include sick leave in accordance with state law.

Requirements

  • Completion of two (2) years of college with specialized training in a particular field of recreation activity.
  • One (1) year of experience as an instructor or leader in the recreation specialty to which assigned.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification for Public Safety Personnel by date of hire.

  • Bilingual skills are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and teaches recreation and sports activities in specialized areas.
  • Assists in planning, organizing, and scheduling classes.
  • Develops and maintains necessary specialized facilities and materials.
  • Coordinates specialized activity programs with other recreation programs.
  • Maintains group and individual discipline.
  • Plans a logical sequence of activities to fit the abilities and interests of participants.
  • Keeps records of attendance and participation; promotes participation.
