The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Recreation Leader, who will play a vital role in providing quality programming and assisting with events and programs, including seasonal Day Camp programs, at various facilities throughout the city. This position is part of a dedicated team of recreational professionals committed to inspiring San Francisco residents and visitors to engage in outdoor activities and enjoy the city's parks. The SF Day Camps will run from June 10 to August 16, 2024, operating Monday through Friday, with work shifts scheduled between 8 AM and 6 PM. Recreation Leaders will assist or lead Day Camp programs, engaging children in a variety of activities such as hiking, storytelling, arts and crafts, and field games. Candidates should have experience in leading games, songs, and cultural activities, and will also mentor camp counselors and youth assistants aged 14 and older. The position is structured into three levels: Recreation Leader I, II, and III, each with increasing responsibilities. Recreation Leader I focuses on program support, light office tasks, customer service, and facility setup. Recreation Leader II is responsible for delivering recreation programs and activities, while Recreation Leader III, as a Certified Program Provider, delivers certified recreation, leisure, and sport programs. All levels may involve administrative tasks and occasional janitorial duties. The department emphasizes the importance of equity and access to quality parks and recreation activities for historically marginalized communities, aiming to create a work environment that celebrates diversity and inclusion. Successful candidates will be required to attend a New Recreation Employee Orientation to familiarize themselves with department procedures and policies before starting work.
