About The Position

This position performs under the general direction of the Recreation Facilities Manager (RFM) or Recreation Area Manager (RAM). This position is responsible for ensuring the successful day-to-day operations of a regional recreation center and provides optimal guest/resident relations. Manages all operations including part-time staff training and development at their assigned regional recreation complex. Provides technical and physical assistance (i.e., supporting staff in setting up and breaking down meeting rooms, providing technical support for all A/V equipment required, meeting with customers to produce electronic room diagram producing reports, and covering unexpected absences). Oversees programming at assigned center in differing capacities, including coordinating events with Media, Maintenance, Entertainment, and Special Events departments. Plan and implement indoor and outdoor recreational activities and educate staff and residents on department programs and policies. Provide a friendly, welcoming atmosphere which encourages residents and guests to participate in recreation activities and promotes a safe, hospitable recreation environment. Ensure the conformance of Recreation Department and District policies at Recreation centers by following the required protocols and procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Recreation & Parks Management, Leisure Studies or related field or six months to one-year related experience and/or training in lieu of education.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
  • CPR/AED Training must be completed within six months of hire.
  • Proven intermediate or better proficiency in personal computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well organized and able to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in supervising activity or recreation staff and volunteers including work schedules, time off, vacations, daily walk through of facility.
  • Performs routine administrative duties including monitoring budget and program recordkeeping.
  • Be competent in all tasks performed by Recreation Assistants for better communication and task management.
  • Designs and prepare computerized room layouts for scheduled events and club meetings.
  • Implements Resident Lifestyle and Special Events policies.
  • Handle conflicts and complaints to resolve and work towards a successful resolution with residents and staff.
  • Interact and communicate with various volunteer groups and staff daily.
  • Build a strong rapport with club/event contacts to ensure policy updates are practiced consistently with all activities.
  • Instruct verbally and through demonstrations individuals and/or groups in lessons, and rules and regulations of sport activities as needed.
  • Maintains continuous training for all Recreation Assistants on use and maintenance of equipment and required forms.
  • Conduct room inspections prior to and after meetings to ensure everything is in safe working condition.
  • Maintain knowledgeable of all recreation centers clubs, leagues, and recreation activities.
  • Be at work ready to start promptly at the scheduled shift beginning.
  • Abides by department dress code at all times.
  • Stay current with District and Department policies and changes/updates.
  • Assists in answering telephone calls by identifying self and facility and provide information about the recreation facility and social events.
  • Assist RFM/RAM and performs other special assignments and tasks required as assigned.
  • Travel to other Recreation locations at department’s request due to business needs.
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends to ensure optimal customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with the Entertainment Department and catering for event setups.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates recreational programs working within budget.
  • Plans and schedules resident activities (leagues, lessons, socials, Senior Games, and Lifestyle Events, etc.).
  • Coordinates events with The Villages media, volunteers and resident lifestyle volunteer groups.
  • Registers residents and guests in Recreation software for lifestyle events/socials.
  • Assists with issuing Guest ID’s, trail fees, and registering residents/guests in Recreation software.
  • Follow required ID protocol for residents and/or guests.
  • Follow District incident reporting protocols for all incidents related to self, residents and/or guests.
  • Assists the RFM/RAM in reviewing timesheets to verify Recreation Assistants’ work hours.
  • Assists RFM/RAM with assigned paperwork including verification of non-compliance.
  • Maintains recordkeeping, either manual or via computer, as directed.
  • Performs monthly maintenance checks on facilities as assigned.
  • Maintains inventory and order equipment and supplies.
  • Follows cash handling procedures for collecting monies.
  • Assists in training new Recreation Assistants in all phases of their job descriptions.
