Waterview Hills Campus is home to Waterview Hills and Salem Hills Rehabilitation & Healthcare: Two facilities committed to providing outstanding Subacute Rehab and Long-Term Skilled Nursing Care. Together, these facilities offer patients the best rehab and nursing care they can obtain after their hospital discharge. The Recreation Lead is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading therapeutic recreational activities for residents in a Skilled Nursing Facility. This role supports residents’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being by implementing engaging programs that enhance quality of life. The Recreation Lead works closely with nursing staff, therapy teams, and families to ensure activities are appropriate to residents’ abilities, care plans, and individual interests. The position requires strong leadership, compassion, creativity, and knowledge of senior care environments, including dementia-sensitive programming and safety protocols. Recreation Lead plans and leads daily recreational and therapeutic activities for residents Adapt programs to meet physical, cognitive, and emotional needs Supervise group and one-on-one activities, including memory care programming Recreation Lead ensures resident safety and follow facility policies and care plans Document participation and progress in accordance with regulations Collaborate with nursing and therapy staff to support resident goals Prepare activity materials and maintain organized activity spaces Encourage socialization and promote resident engagement

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in Recreation Therapy, Gerontology, or related field preferred
  • Previous experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or senior services preferred
  • Knowledge of dementia care and age-appropriate programming
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt activities to residents’ physical and cognitive abilities
  • Compassionate, patient, and resident-centered approach
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends or holidays
  • Previous experience with geriatric patients is desirable.
  • Must have a sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and handicapped.
  • Must utilize good judgment in emergency situations.
  • Must possess a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm in order to create an atmosphere conducive to rehabilitation and growth.
  • Must be able to communicate well verbally with residents, families and staff.
  • Treat residents and fellow staff with respect, dignity, and compassion.
