About The Position

The Educator works in the Recreation Administrative Office and throughout EBR Parish at BREC parks and at community events. This requires scheduling educational and recreational programs, supervising staff and volunteers, leading and instructing programs, researching and developing curriculum and schedules, teaching and leading group activities, and composing routine correspondence. Work involves interaction with other employees, volunteers, community leaders, and the general public. This position may differ by location and/or area of specialization as follows: BREC on the Geaux duties may include: Assist in creating and planning programs, events, and community engagements with non-profits, local schools, and health and wellness-related organizations. Assess and evaluate events based on attendance. Create, build, and engage with team members and other departments accomplish the functions of events and programs. Communicate the vision and goals of events from start to finish. Prepare and stock supplies for each event, packing appropriate supplies in advance, and unloading as needed. Ensure that hospitably is extended to all students and volunteers. Effectively communicate with management regarding schedule and task sheets. Maintain financial records of fuel in box trucks. Adaptive duties may also include: Assisting individuals in programs and events of all ages and abilities to include those with intellectual disabilities. Assist with the management of the Sensory Tent at large community events. Complete individual assessments. Adapting activities for participants; and assisting individuals with transfer and personal care of participants. Community Events duties may also include: Assist in creating and planning events and community engagements with non-profits. Coordinate partnerships and collaborations with other BREC departments and external organizations. Assess and evaluate events based on attendance. Create, build, and engage with team members and other departments accomplish the functions of events and programs. Communicate the vision and goals of events from start to finish. Prepare and stock supplies for each event, packing appropriate supplies in advance, and unloading as needed. Ensure that hospitably is extended to all volunteers. Effectively communicate with management regarding schedule and task sheets.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of 2 or more years at an accredited 4-year college or university
  • 2 years supervisory or recreation programming experience
  • Valid LA driver's license
  • Computer and general office skills
  • Written & oral communication skills for public programming
  • Interpersonal/public relations skills

Nice To Haves

  • Education in Recreation Administration, Therapeutic Recreation, Sports Administration, Outdoor Programming, Education, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Researches, schedules and implements recreation programs
  • Assists with the direct supervision of equipment, vehicle, employees and volunteers
  • Prepares and disseminates correspondence about programs to area schools, community organizations, and BREC parks including programs offered and confirmations
  • Assists in development, installation, and marketing items and equipment
  • Organize and teach program specific skills (new and existing) to participants
  • Supervises staff daily
