About The Position

The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for a Recreation Camp Director to oversee the City's youth camps. This is a part time, benefits-eligible position averaging 20 hours per week. During the summer months during Camps-season, this position works 40 hours per week. Position Summary The Recreation Camp Director is responsible for developing, facilitating and overseeing specialty camps, school out camps, licensed summer camps and any future camps developed. This position will oversee and plan activities that relate to the particular camp and must have the ability to make decisions quickly and communicate with parents/guardians effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, child development, recreation, or related field.
  • Must have at least 2-3 years experience working with youth in supervisory role.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, schedules and supervises up to 30 variable staff members.
  • Effectively plans, organizes and leads campers in a variety of activities.
  • Conducts positive relations and communicates clearly with parents, participants and other personnel.
  • Ensures a safe environment for participants and employees per Lenexa and KDHE operational guidelines.
  • Assists groups with planning and implementation of programs and activities and schedules group rotations.
  • Knows, follows and enforces all discipline/behavior policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to medication policy and completes training to dispense medication & administer EpiPens.
  • Maintains, inspects and cleans equipment and designated program areas.
  • Drives campers to and from activities in a 15-passenger van shuttle bus.
  • Responsible for the health and well-being of campers.
  • Creates a supply list and manages the needs of supplies to effectively run the programs.
  • Practices and enforces all camp policies, safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Documents all situations, disturbances and incidents at camp and reports to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Takes professional development training courses annually related to school-aged children.
  • Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.
