About The Position

SMAA is seeking Part-time (24 - 30 hours per week) Recreation Assistants for our Adult Day Program. This position will be floating position to work at one of our three locations: Biddeford, Springvale and Portland, Maine. We provide programs for adults living with dementia or other cognitive impairments in a warm, bright, and friendly atmosphere. Our program staff are energetic, creative, and compassionate as they facilitate a wide array of activities designed to maximize self-esteem and increase positive social interactions for our members. Recreation Assistants are an integral part of our interdisciplinary team, interacting with members throughout the day, leading small group activities, providing some personal care, communicating with caregivers, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Capable of writing clearly and using a computer.
  • Ability to communicate accurately and professionally.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and works well with consumers, providers, co-workers and management alike.
  • Clean criminal background check and clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of experience in an Adult Day Health Center, residential care or nursing home strongly preferred.
  • CRMA, with additional compensation for a valid certification.
  • Proven knowledge, experience and skill in working with the needs of older adults with memory loss and other disabilities in areas such as ADL skills and appropriate mental, social and physical

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development of quality programming (i.e. through the development and use of the monthly calendar).
  • Leads appropriate activities and is comfortable working with members living with cognitive
  • Initiates, conducts and prepares for group and individual activities and is able to perform these functions with minimal assistance.
  • Offers input for care plan development.
  • Implements each member's team-developed care plan, always striving towards reaching the goals and objectives.
  • Assists members with their activities of daily living, including bathroom and other care, while simultaneously encouraging their independence.
  • Assists with daily general housekeeping duties to clean and maintain the Center.
  • Assists with menu planning and serving meals and snacks.
  • Prepares and completes tracking forms monthly for daily tracking of activities and toileting
  • Works with other staff to ensure accurate and appropriate documentation in each member’s record.
  • Assists with special events, as needed.
  • Assists team and Program Coordinator with tracking referrals, recording service units and other reporting and admin tasks, as needed
