About The Position

The Arc of Ocean County is seeking a Recreation Assistant within our Family Support Department to support individuals with disabilities by providing safe, engaging, and meaningful recreational experiences throughout Ocean County. We are currently hiring a Full-Time Recreation Assistant to work with individuals in a social and community-based setting. This role focuses on helping participants improve social skills, build relationships, and take part in both on-site and community recreational activities designed to enhance quality of life and encourage community inclusion. Schedule: Tuesday through Friday, 1:00 PM–9:00 PM, and Saturday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Pay: Starting at $20.20 per hour, up to $24.20 per hour, with bi-weekly pay The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following: Ability to work independently and show initiative Experience planning, leading, and coordinating group activities and events Strong ability to train, support, and provide feedback to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) Demonstrated leadership experience, including serving as a lead staff member Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan and manage events effectively The candidate will also assist with a variety of group outings, social events, and recreational activities, including dances, fitness programs, arts and crafts, cooking groups, and small group trips. Responsibilities include providing transportation using agency vehicles, as well as offering supervision and support throughout all activities. In this role, you will promote active participation, encourage engagement in program activities, and serve as a positive social role model for individuals served in the program.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license in good standing, with no more than 5 points
  • Demonstrates work stability with at least one year of tenure at a previous employer
  • Prior experience supporting individuals with disabilities
  • High school diploma or GED required
