Under the direction of the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Assistant assists with the planning, coordination, implementation, and supervision of inclusive recreation programs, activities, camps, and special events for children and adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. This position provides direct participant support, program leadership, volunteer coordination, and facility oversight. Greets all participants, visitors, volunteers, and families in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner. Provides daily hospitality, customer service, staff support, and effective communication with participants, families, volunteers, and coworkers. Assists in the planning, implementation, instruction, and supervision of recreation programs and activities for children and adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Develops independent lesson plans and activity schedules for assigned programs and evaluates program effectiveness. Leads and supports a variety of adaptive recreation activities, which may include but are not limited to: field trips, dances, adaptive sports, walking programs, swimming, track, arts and crafts, fishing, bowling, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and similar activities. Oversees day programs, camps, and activities, ensuring participant safety, engagement, and inclusion. Implements programs and supervises facilities and/or rental groups in the absence of the Recreation Specialists and/or Recreation Manager. Serves as the department's Volunteer Coordinator, including: Recruiting, orienting, assigning, and supervising volunteers. Maintaining accurate volunteer hour logs. Submitting monthly reports to Volunteer Pasadena. Processing volunteer applications in a timely manner. Coordinating volunteer recognition and awards. Ordering, distributing, and tracking volunteer incentives. Directs and manages a summer camp program, including: Program planning and preparation of materials. Coordinating outings and securing transportation. Assigning staff and volunteers to participants. Communicating with families before and during camp. Leading daily camp operations and post-camp cleanup. Maintains all required licenses, certifications, clearances, and job-related requirements without interruption. Works assigned schedule and complies with all City timekeeping, attendance, and workplace policies.
