About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in the coordination of recreational programs and activities for the community, which include athletics operations as well as beach operations during the summer months.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED supplemented by five (5) months previous experience and/or training in athletic event coordination is required, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job.
• Valid Driver's License is required.
• Must possess and maintain valid American Red Cross Certification in First Aid and CPR (or must attain within the first three (3) months of employment) and Certified Lifeguard for the Professional Rescuer Certifications, American Red Cross Life Guard Instructor Training, Water Safety Instructor, American Red Cross Babysitting Instructor Training, Certified Pool and Spa Operator Certification, and or Aquatics Facility Operator training required (or must attain within the first nine (9) months of employment).

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, and assists in conducting various youth/adult activities involving sports leagues, recreational activities, day/after school camps, and other programs; develops schedules for programs/activities. Organizes and coordinates sports events, teams, practices, and games; assigns players to teams; maintains current team rosters; coaches various sports; submits notices of team statistics to local newspapers for publication.
• Conducts program/activity registration; receives completed registration cards and reviews for completeness; enters participant registration data into computer database; maintains records of attendance in daily camp activities; calculates and collects appropriate fees.
• Coordinates activities of sports officials, coaches, scorekeepers, and other staff; schedules/assigns staff to ensure adequate coverage of events and activities; processes documentation to certify coaches through GRPA; maintains current list of coaches; processes time sheets and payroll documents for sports officials.
• Supervises activities of individuals or organizations using recreation facilities or participating in recreation programs; explains policies and procedures to program participants; handles situations involving excessive noise, disruptive behavior, or other problems.
• Monitors safety/security of program participants and recreational facilities; responds to injuries/illnesses, applies first aid to injuries, and contacts emergency medical services for assistance as needed; monitors athletic fields and playing fields to ensure proper field conditions for programs/activities; evaluates weather conditions and field conditions, and determines whether to discontinue activities or close fields as appropriate; identifies maintenance problems and initiates requests for necessary work; reports hazardous conditions or other situations to appropriate personnel; completes accident report forms to report accidents, injuries, or other incidents; locks/secures recreation buildings.
• Performs customer service functions; provides information and assistance related to parks/recreational facilities, programs, special events, procedures, forms, fees, or other issues; discusses programs with youth and parents; distributes event schedules, registration forms, or other documentation; responds to routine questions, complaints, or requests for service; researches problems and initiates problem resolution.
• Receives money in payment of program/class registration fees or other fees/services; records transactions and issues receipts; prepares bank deposits; forwards revenues as appropriate.
• Performs general/clerical tasks, including answering telephone calls, sending/receiving faxes, making copies, filing documentation, processing incoming/outgoing mail, or running errands.
• Assists other employees or departments as needed.
