The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a trip guide for whitewater rafting Bighorn Sheep, or Browns canyon as part of the USAF A Outdoor Recreation Program. The role involves maintaining and preparing equipment for scheduled trips, de-rigging after trips, storing equipment properly, and cleaning all equipment and rental items. The guide will inform customers of risks while on the river, brief participants on safety rules, and initiate and/or direct group activities off and on the river. Other assigned duties include kitchen cleanup, food preparation, packing supplies, cleaning the rafting area, and fixing equipment. Customers include a wide range of ages, abilities, and backgrounds. The guide will explain the program and answer questions related to trips/outing, provide instruction and information about specific activities that correspond with the students' abilities, and perform required safety inspections on all outing equipment used. When required to drive a customer to or from the program sites, the incumbent must drive in a safe manner to avoid endangering the vehicle, equipment, and customers. The guide may also aid other Recreation Assistants with activities such as rock/ice climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, and marketing as needed, depending on the employee's experience with these activities. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.
