About The Position

The Recreation Assistant (Fitness and Sports) position at Langley Air Force Base is a temporary intermittent role focused on supporting the operation and maintenance of the Fitness and Sports program. The incumbent will work in a part-time capacity, with no guaranteed hours, and may be scheduled for up to 40 hours per week until the position ends on April 30, 2025. Responsibilities include enforcing access procedures, maintaining equipment, providing customer service, and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of facilities.

Requirements

• Experience demonstrating familiarity with routines and procedures in group activities or programs.
• Practical knowledge of recreational activities, equipment, rules, and procedures.
• Ability and skill in dealing with the public.
• A group exercise certification and/or personal training certification is highly desirable.
• Physical ability to stand, bend, stoop, and reach for long periods.
• Ability to frequently lift and carry objects weighing 100 pounds or more.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the operation and maintenance of the Fitness and Sports program and facilities.
• Enforce customer access and priority according to established procedures and regulatory guidance.
• Establish schedules of events and rules for facility use.
• Issue, receive, clean, and maintain fitness equipment.
• Safely demonstrate equipment and techniques for various fitness and sports activities.
• Set up areas for daily use, sports events, tournaments, and practice games.
• Inspect sports facilities and equipment for security and general conditions.
• Provide information to customers about available classes and programs.
• Assist with receipt and accounting of supply orders.
• Secure facilities and equipment, and collect user fees.
