About The Position

The position is located in Menager's Dam. Position Summary: Under close supervision, assists in organizing and conducting recreational activities for the Tohono O'odham Nation Recreation Centers according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Emphasis will be placed on programs activities for youth. The work is normally reviewed in progress and upon completion of each assignment to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformance to established standards; most aspects of the work tasks are covered by detailed instructions or procedures.

• Ability to travel within the interior/exterior boundaries of the Tohono O'odham Nation.
• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma and six months work experience working with youth organized recreational activities, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
• Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire.
• Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
• May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
• If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
• Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assists in planning and organizing activities such as dances, carnivals, tournaments, special events, arts and crafts, athletic events and sports activities, senior citizen's programs, and special interest classes.
• Works with community groups to support the recreation program services.
• Maintains recreation facility in a clean and orderly condition
• Ensures compliance with all safety procedures in supervising children during recreation activities.
• Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings.
• Ensures the appropriate and safe use of materials and equipment; notifies supervisor of any loss or damage to equipment and replacement supplies.
• Drives van to transport participants to and from centers as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.
