About the position

The Recreation Aide facilitates youth recreational activities by supervising, participating, or teaching. This part-time position requires working afternoons, evenings, and weekends. The role involves ensuring safety and security for youth during school hours and practice times, monitoring Field House doors, assisting with student attendance, supervising youth, and coordinating activities and programs for the Recreation Department. The aide will also assist in developing plans and activities to enhance self-esteem and confidence among youth, and may act as a lifeguard or perform pool maintenance if required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing safety and security for youth during the school day and practice times.
  • Monitors Field House doors during school hours, ensuring all entries are authorized and safe.
  • Monitors radio communications.
  • Assists office staff and teachers in verifying student attendance and whereabouts within the Field House during the school day.
  • Supervises youth who are referred, or have appointments, drivers' education courses, or are waiting for FT pickup.
  • Provides directions and access for deliveries arriving to the Field House.
  • Assists with visitors to the Field House, including guests with appointments to the Athletic Director's office.
  • Locks down Field House in case of emergency, fire drill, or inclement weather drill, including communicating with administration on the location of students.
  • Conducts sweeps after fire drill per instruction from administration.
  • Assists in developing plans and activities to ensure smooth operations and programs for the Recreation Department.
  • Attends scheduled program hours and devotes time to direct interaction and supervision with the youth and Boys Town employees, guests, and visitors.
  • Assists in developing and implementing programs with skill-building activities designed to increase self-esteem and confidence of youth, and recruits youth for activities.
  • Assists in developing plans and activities, maintains accurate program records, and assists with athletic events.
  • Coordinates and sets up equipment needed to implement and facilitate programs.
  • Uses the Boys Town Model to teach and monitor behaviors and skills; implements the Social Skills Curriculum.
  • May act as a lifeguard or perform pool maintenance if required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 19 years of age required.
  • CPR - First Aid - AED Certified required.
  • State of NE Pool Operator's License (or equivalent national license) required for some positions; Lifeguard Certification required for some positions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Recreational, athletic, or supervisory experience preferred.
